Sunday before the Elevation of the Holy Cross
After-feast of the Nativity of the Theotokos
Venerable Theodora of Alexandria; Righteous Euphrosynos the Cook; Martyrs Demetrios, Evanthia and Demetrianos; translation of relics of Venerable Sergios and Herman of Valaam
Visitors, you are always welcome here and invited to all services and events at All Saints.
Nourishment of the Soul: “”If you are making something, you must call to mind the Creator of all things; if you see the light, remember the Giver of it. If you put on your clothes, recall whose gift they are and thank Him who provides for your life. In short, let every action be a cause of your remembering and praising God, and lo! you will be praying without ceasing and therein your soul will always rejoice.” — St. Peter of Damascus
Church Van: If you know a student who needs a ride, please direct them to Subdeacon Jon Weber or to Howard Webb.
Orthodoxy 101: On Wednesday, September 14th Greg Gillquist (Fr. Peter Jon’s brother from Alaska) will be teaching Communication 101 about basic communication skills during Orthodoxy 101. These skills will help in friendships, families, business and all other relationships. This is a presentation Greg gives at hospitals, businesses and churches all over the state of Alaska. A meal has been pre-planned.
A Festival Meeting has been scheduled for today after Divine Liturgy. In one month this year’s annual Festival on Fairfax will be but a memory! Let’s make sure that we are ready and that our parish has set aside the date to attend or to help!
Receiving the Eucharist: We invite you to receive the Holy Eucharist if you are an Orthodox Christian who has prepared yourself through fasting, prayer, and recent confession. If you are not Orthodox, or are Orthodox but have not prepared, we invite you to receive a piece of the blessed bread in the wooden bowls held by the altar servers at the front of the church.
Deacon Lucas Christensen, formerly of this parish, will be ordained to the Holy Priesthood, next Sunday at Holy Trinity in Carmel.

Today’s Epistle and Gospel Readings
Prokeimenon: “O Lord, save thy people and bless Thine inheritance.”
Verse: “Unto Thee, O Lord, will I cry, O my God!” – Psalm 27:9,1
Epistle: The Reading from St. Paul’s Epistle to the Galatians. (6:11-18)
Brethren, see how large a letter I have written to you with my own hand. As many as desire to make a fair show in the flesh, they compel you to be circumcised, only that they may not be persecuted for the Cross of Christ. For not even those who are circumcised do themselves keep the Law; but they desire to have you circumcised, that they may boast in your flesh.
But God forbid that I should boast, except in the Cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom the world is crucified to me, and I to the world.
For in Christ Jesus, neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. And as many as walk according to this rule, peace be upon them, and mercy, and upon the Israel of God.
Henceforth let no one trouble me; for I bear in my body the brand-marks of the Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.
Gospel: The Reading is from the Holy Gospel according to St. John. (3:13-17)
The Lord said, “No one has ascended into heaven but He who descended from heaven, the Son of man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent His Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.”
Divine Liturgy Variables
Resurrectional Apolytikion – Tone 3
Let the heavens rejoice and the earth be glad, for the Lord hath done a mighty act with His own arm. He hath trampled down death by death, and become the first-born from the dead. He hath delivered us from the depths of Hades, granting the world the Great Mercy.
Apolytikion of the Nativity of the Theotokos – Tone 4
Thy nativity, O Theotokos, hath proclaimed joy to the whole world; for from thee hath dawned the Sun of Righteousness, Christ our God, annulling the curse and bestowing the blessing, abolishing death and granting us life everlasting.
Kontakion of the Nativity of theTheotokos – Tone 4
Joachim and Anna were freed from the reproach of childlessness, and Adam and Eve from the corruption of death, O immaculate one, by thy holy Nativity, which thy people, redeemed from the guilt of offenses, celebrate by crying to thee: The barren woman giveth birth to the Theotokos, the nourisher of our life.
